Blogging.... wooo

Well, my name is Stephanie Weiss. I am a second year law student, and I have had enough. I am tired of writing essays about how awesome I am! From resumes to job applications and law review bios, I have had to brandish my achievements like a double-edged sword: slicing through adversity in tough economics times to land a job that pays, while at the same time, displaying the fruits of the spirit (particularly, patience, humility, etc.) All of the online resume kits say "Tell the employer what you can do for him; not what he can do for you." Well, the truth is folks, I am completely dispensable in an over-saturated job market full of J.D.-toting, bar-passing, brilliant, young lawyers. What my cover letter REALLY should say is:

"Dear Hiring Department,

I am a lowly 2L who does not have any work experience in this particular field. Instead of working, I have been slaving away for four years in my impractical double major in Political Science and Economics at a small, yet extremely challenging, college that no one has heard of. However, I have acquired many skills at my previous jobs that may be relevant, such as folding denim, opening wine bottles, and serving Jell-O shots to intoxicated bikers. Please, please, please get past my credentials and grant me an interview.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Weiss "

Well, with hopes of a paid internship, I will press on. I am about to embark on a new year, full of new people, and new challenges. Look out world, the perils of over-education await.
